Cedar Grove Hosting 2014 Veterans Day Celebration

On November 11, 2014, Cedar Grove Veterans Apartments will host the 2014 Veterans Day Celebration. The event will celebrate the military service given by the veteran residents of Cedar Grove, which is the first permanent supportive housing developed in the Hampton Roads region that exclusively serves low-income homeless and disabled veterans.

Virginia Beach Community Development Corporation will host the event in the Cedar Grove Community Room. The celebration will feature healthy foods and gifts of appreciation donated to the veterans by local businesses.

A ceremony will be held including a Pledge of Allegiance, remarks about the President’s Veterans Day Proclamation, and a special presentation of a $6,000 donation made by the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Virginia Chapter 27-1. Chapter Commander Dick Landick will formally present this donation. The donation will be used to purchase disability-friendly exercise equipment for the Cedar Grove Community Gym.

Cedar Grove Apartments, which are owned and managed by the Virginia Beach Community Development Corporation, were opened in October 2013. Since then Cedar Grove has been home to more than 35 veterans. Cedar Grove is an award-winning development that has received the honors of the 2014 Across the Region Service Award from the Hampton Roads Housing Consortium, 2013 Virginia Governor’s Housing Award for Best Housing Development, and EarthCraft Virginia Certification for an environmentally-friendly multifamily project.
