What is “The Spot”?

“The Spot” is a community-based hub located within the Lake Edward neighborhood of Virginia Beach. The objective of the initiative is to provide supportive activities that engage neighbors strengthen community bonds and empower them to strive to meet the community priorities of a safe and secure environment for all residents, neighborhood pride and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Operating hours are based on scheduled activity sessions. See The Spot page for more details. 

 

“The Spot” is a space that is coming to life through a collaborative effort between:

 

  • The Virginia Beach Community Development Corporation

  • The Spot Leadership Circle

  • Joint Lake Edward Area Civic League & Strategic Planning Committee

  • Virginia Beach City Police – Third Precinct

  • AND… Community Volunteer Groups!
     

What activities may take place here?

“The Spot” is a place for inter-generational tutoring and mentoring for children, families, adults and seniors. Activities may include book club meetings, technology classes for seniors, adult literacy tutoring, mentoring for adolescent girls and boys, health and nutrition initiatives and peer support groups for those such as single moms, grandmothers raising grandchildren and jobseekers. However, the space has not been approved for resource distribution, recreation, or as a youth “hang out”. “The Spot” is designed to host gatherings of around 10 individuals in small group settings.  

 

How can I get involved?

  • Advocate for “The Spot” to your neighbors as well as the community at large. “The Spot” isn’t just for Lake Edward residents.

  • Sign up for activities of interest to you and your family. 

  • Volunteer to help lead mentoring and tutoring activities at The Spot.
